Freddie joined VHS Fletchers in August 2018 as a trainee solicitor. He graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2016 with an undergraduate degree in German Studies, before going on to study postgraduate law at Nottingham Law School. Freddie achieved a distinction in both the Graduate Diploma in Law in 2017 and the Legal Practice Course in 2018.
During his postgraduate studies, Freddie was able to undertake pro bono work through Nottingham Law School’s Legal Advice Centre. This enabled him to gain a considerable amount of experience in providing legal advice and dealing with cases on behalf of vulnerable clients. He also took instructions and prepared a case for an employment tribunal as a Free Representation Unit representative, which involved conducting a preliminary hearing for the case with the Judge.
Freddie has also been able to advise clients whilst working in the Defence Solicitor Criminal Defence Direct call centre. He was responsible for liaising with police stations across England and Wales in relation to clients being held for a wide variety of offences. Freddie provided legal advice to clients being held in police custody and was able to communicate in a sensitive manner with some extremely vulnerable clients.
As part of his undergraduate degree, Freddie spent a year living in Munich, Germany. Working for a sports editorial agency, he translated articles for the English websites of a number of Germany’s top football teams. He also assisted in the upkeep of English social media accounts for the same teams. Since returning from Germany, Freddie has been responsible for running the English website for Munich’s ice hockey team and translating post-match football interviews.
Freddie is currently working in our Nottingham crime department and gained his police station accreditation in January 2019 and plays an active part on our out of hours rota. His first substantial training seat is in our Crown Court department at the Nottingham office. He will continue to develop his skills by meeting with clients and preparing cases for court, working with both in-house advocates and members of the independent bar.
