Criminal Proceedings and the impact on Degree Studies
Being arrested for an offence whilst at university, can have serious implications on your ability to continue with your degree. This will be particularly true if the offence is one that is serious in nature or a degree involves working with members of the public as part of your studies. This might be the case, for example, with a medical, nursing or dentistry degree.
Here at VHS Fletchers, we have a long established criminal defence department. Our lawyers are well versed in representing students in all manner of criminal cases. This can be providing advice in the police station. If charged we provide representation in the Magistrates and Crown court.
Our education law team will work alongside our criminal defence team. Our education team members are dual qualified and understand both landscapes and the impact that a conviction can have on your studies. They understand the representations that need to be made if your fitness to continue with your studies becomes an issue.
If you are a student and you have been arrested or charged and given a date to attend court, please do contact us. All advice in police interview will be free of charge. Most students pass the means test required to be eligible for legal aid which is publicly funded representation to criminal proceedings before the courts.
