Chris Butler

Chris Butler

Chris joined VHS Fletchers as a Trainee Solicitor specialising in criminal defence in January 2026.  He is based at our Nottingham office.

Chris completed his LLB (Hons) in Law at Nottingham Trent University before going on to complete his Masters and Legal Practice Course, achieving a Commendation. During his studies, Chris undertook modules including Advanced Criminal Practice and Advanced Advocacy.

Prior to starting his training contract, Chris gained valuable insight into legal practice through a year-long mentorship by a Partner at another busy criminal law practice where he observed Magistrates’ Court trials, client interviews, and pre-trial preparation. This experience strengthened his understanding of legal procedure, professional conduct and client care, confirming his desire to pursue a career as a solicitor in criminal defence.

He is in the process of undertaking his police station accreditation to permit him to represent those clients requiring independent advice and assistance during police interview.

Alongside his legal training, Chris previously held supervisory roles within the hospitality industry, developing strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, client-facing environments. These roles required professionalism, discretion, and the ability to manage competing demands — skills that will transfer directly into legal practice.

Outside work Chris has a keen interest in music, particularly playing the guitar, and is passionate about the outdoors, enjoying  hiking and camping to maintain balance and focus. He also has a longstanding interest in mixology, exploring creativity and precision through cocktail competitions.
