Prosecutions on Behalf of the Health and Safety Executive
VHS and then VHS Fletchers solicitors have prosecuted on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive since 1999. The specialism was developed by Steven Varley, with Andy Siddall joining the department in 2008, followed by the recruitment of Andrew Broome as consultant, and the transfer of Helen Lees as assistant solicitor. All have a background of many years of involvement with criminal litigation.
In 2012 Andy Siddall, who holds his solicitors’ Higher Courts qualification, was appointed to the list of Specialist Regulatory Advocates in Health & Safety and Environmental Law. He is one of only seven solicitor advocate nationwide to be included on the list.
Our health & safety solicitors undertakes Notice Appeals and represents the HSE at inquests on a regular basis, as well as preparing and presenting cases in the Magistrates’ Court or providing litigator support in the Crown Court.
In October 2015 the firm was one of only six firms health and safety lawyers nationwide to successfully tender for contract to prosecute on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive.
